TRADITIONAL chiefs in Manicaland have praised the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and its Commander, General Constantino Guveya Chiwenga, for intervening to restore order in the country.
They said General Chiwenga was heavenly sent to save the lives of million people who had been suffering at the hands of President Mu- gabe.
Thousands of people marched in the streets of Harare on Saturday calling for the resignation of President Mugabe.
President Mugabe was yesterday scheduled to meet army generals to discuss the current political and social situation.
“The stance which was made by the ZDF was a noble one. People across many divides are happy as we speak. I think it was God’s wish and His plans for the future of this nation
” It is His plan to be where we are today as a nation. I do not see if there is a problem to say this is what we want as a nation. God speaks in different ways and I am sure this is one way He has spoken. ZDF has stepped in to save the lives of many people,” said Chief Mutasa.
Chief Mutasa said President Mugabe had made his name as a leader over the years but made a “mistake” by allowing the First Lady to be active in national politics.
“He (President Mugabe) had made his name over the past years. I think his problem rests with his wife. It was one area President should have worked on,” he said.
Chief Chimombe called for peace and urged people not to take any provocative actions.
“As traditional leaders we have to wait and follow decisions from the highest offices. We cannot make decisions. In addition, some of us live in the rural areas where we do not have access to (the latest) information. We might be ill- informed, but I call upon people to be united and be peaceful,” he said.
