adminJOHANNESBURG. — Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung is certain his club has learnt their lessons from last season and will be even stronger in 2015.
The Glamour Boys threw away a healthy lead in the Absa Premiership to rivals and eventual winners Mamelodi Sundowns — a trophy which should have been theirs, according to Motaung.
“The year gone by was a bit of a mixed bag,” Motaung told the club’s website as he looked back on 2014.
“First and foremost, we should have won the Absa Premiership. We did well, but with four games to go we stumbled, drawing twice in games that we should have won. As a result, we finished second on 63 points with league champions Mamelodi Sundowns having 65 points.
“It was sad to give away the title right at the end of the season, especially while we were on top of the log for so long.”
However, Chiefs have enjoyed an impressive run this campaign, and Motaung is well-pleased with the side’s performances so far as they hit the halfway stage of the season.
“We started the new season on a high note, which we continued until the end of the year,” he continued.
“It is a nice record, not having lost a league encounter after 18 games. Besides this, we have a decent margin between ourselves and our nearest rivals. [We have] already won the MTN8 this season, which is something to be very proud about.”
Chiefs have a busy schedule ahead of them in the upcoming months as they are involved in African competition as well, yet Motaung believes they have learnt from last season and will be a stronger unit this time around. — Kick-Off.
