Four brothers have gone into hiding after they allegedly killed a couple in Mberengwa following a chieftainship wrangle in August this year. The quartet allegedly killed the couple — Arison Nkomo (51) and his wife Laina Sibanda (48) — after burning down a hut they were sleeping in. Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson Detective Inspector Monalisa Mangena yesterday said they wanted to question the brothers Munyaradzi, Oliver, Morris and Martin Chikwetu over the incident.
“The four suspects are wanted for questioning in connection with a murder case, which occurred in Mberengwa. Their last known address is Dangaidzo Village, Chief Mataga, Mberengwa and are all not employed,” she said.
It is alleged that on August 12, the four ganged up and went to Nkomo’s homestead during the night where they used razor wire to tie the door of the hut from outside. They then sprinkled petrol and set the hut on fire.
Nkomo and Sibanda, who were sleeping inside were burnt beyond recognition.
A report was made to the police and investigations carried out revealed that there was a chieftainship wrangle between the couple and the Chikwetu brothers.
After allegedly committing the offence, the four disappeared.
“They are suspected to be hiding in fishing camps dotted around the country masquerading as fishmongers.
“The police are appealing to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the four to contact CID Zvishavane on 051-2198 or 2829 or 2032 or cellphone number 0773 705 564 or any nearest police station,” Detective Insp Mangena said.
