FORMER Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura is back in the dugout again, this time at Uhuru Cricket Club, after Takashinga confirmed a major coaching reshuffle on Wednesday.

The former all-rounder leaves Takashinga 2 after helping guide the side to a National Premier League title and turning it into one of the strongest talent pipelines in domestic cricket.

Now 39, Chigumbura takes charge of Uhuru alongside assistant coach Nigel Mupurura and team manager Chamu Chibhabha, another former Zimbabwe international.

His move headlines a wider restructuring exercise across the Takashinga set-up as the club looks to strengthen both its senior teams and junior development structures.

Erick Chauluka has been appointed overall head coach and will work with Takashinga 1 alongside assistant Stuart Matsikenyere and team manager Keith Kulinga.

Takashinga 2 will now be under Nobert Manyande, assisted by Ngonidzashe Mutasa.

The club also confirmed new coaches across Under-17, Under-15 and Under-13 teams for both boys and girls as it continues to push its long-standing development model.

Takashinga said the latest appointments reflected the club’s commitment to building pathways for young cricketers, something that has helped shape a number of Zimbabwe internationals over the years.

“We are grateful to Elton for his service to Takashinga and wish him well in his new endeavour,” the club said.

With the domestic season already underway, attention will now shift to whether Chigumbura can quickly make Uhuru competitive.
