In an interview in Harare last week, Chigwandaza, who is enjoying the festive break with the family in Marondera , said he had done enough in first division football and was now ripe for the elite league.
“I believe I have played my part in lower division football and should move up the ranks and Premiership soccer is the target.
“As a goalkeeper, I want to be recognised by bigger sides, even the national team, though some people may view this as ambitious.
“I am praying hard that my team Tripple B makes it through after the pending cases as this is my only realistic opportunity to play in the PSL,” he said.
One of the two goalkeepers in the league with the highest number of clean sheets, together with Hardbody’s Alexander Useni, rued the fact that PSL coaches rarely gave themselves time to scout for talent in lower leagues.
“There is abundance of talent in the lower leagues which awaits identification by coaches but there is little focus being given.
“This has cost potential talent in the lower league an opportunity to go up and it is unfortunate the trend seems to continue unabated.
“One just waits for a stronger link to make it,” said Chigwandaza.
Chigwandaza, affectionately known as Baba Gari after Brenna Msiska, hails from Marondera.
He turned out for clubs that include Golden Kopje (2003-4) in the Northern Region Division One, captained GMB Marondera (2005-2009), and Surrey FC (2010) in the Eastern Region Division One before joining Tripple B.
