POLICE Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri has commended pupils from the force’s primary schools for taking education seriously and getting the best results.Speaking at the Commissioner General’s merit awards ceremony recently, Comm Gen Chihuri said the pupils achieved remarkable success during Zimbabwe School Examinations Council national examinations last year.

“This is a special day in the education sector calendar when we gather to celebrate the impressive mark ZRP schools engrave in the nation’s education system.

“The organisation continues to be egotistical of ZRP schools as they put us on the education map,” he said, in a speech read on his behalf by Commissioner (human resources) Nonkosi Ncube.

Comm Gen Chihuri said ZRP schools were now a force to reckon with in the achievement of quality education, adding the schools were also doing well in extra-mural activities.

In 2012 Kadoma Primary School did well by attaining the first position in gymnastics in Mashonaland West province. Ross Camp School and Support Unit had individual pupils who participated at national level in athletics and netball respectively.

The police chief said the force was working flat out to keep abreast with technological advances in education.
“I am reliably informed that the ZRP schools continue to shine academically in their respective provinces, with Ross Camp School coming first in the Grade Seven national examinations in Bulawayo province with a 99 percent pass rate,” Comm Gen Chihuri said.

He also commended ZRP Braeside School for breaking the record by producing a total of 17 pupils with four units in the 2012 Grade Seven national examinations.

“In 2011 the schools attained an overall pass rate of 87 percent with 31 pupils having four units. In 2012 the schools attained an overall pass rate of 92 percent and had 38 pupils with four units.

“This marks an overall 4.9 percent rise in the pass rate,” Comm Gen Chihuri said.
He commended the officers commanding provinces for providing a conducive environment for schools to operate in and encouraged them to continue with the good work.
