Police officers are ambassadors of their countries and should always defend it from detractors, Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri has said.He said officers should demonstrate unquestionable loyalty when discharging their duties.
Comm-Gen Chihuri made the remarks during the completion of the Police Very Important Persons protection course in Harare last week.
The course saw 15 members from the Namibian police force receiving a four-week intensive training in VIP protection.
The Comm-Gen commended the group for their endurance throughout their training in Zimbabwe since January 20 this year.
“You have demonstrated that you were receptive and purposeful participants who were eager to learn. The field of VIP protection training requires conscious competence, skill, confidence and self-motivation. These are the attributes which leaders, organisations and indeed nations look for,” said Comm-Gen Chihuri.
He also took note of the five females among the 15 VIP Protection trained team and thanked them for showing endurance as it would motivate Namibian female officers to follow suit.
Zimbabwe and Namibia have a longstanding relationship in many areas. He highlighted that the Sadc and the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation (SARPCCO) have enduring entities.
