Chihuri promotes 33 senior officers

The officers included 28 men and five women who were elevated from inspectors and chief inspectors’ ranks.
In his speech, Commissioner General Chihuri said the promotions were done to maintain the country’s legacy of peace and tranquility.
“The promoted officers are products of the process structured to identify astute officers who are focused, diligent and have the persistence to hold on to the end.
“Promotions are a placement into positions of more responsibilities and the officers underwent a painstaking tripod process.
“On the senior level, there are implications for the exercise of elevated authority not only in the organisation but also within the broader criminal justice system.”
He said the officers would be custodians of public peace where their major task is to ensure that peace prevails.
Commissioner-General Chihuri said officers were empowered by law to subject all Zimbabweans to the tenets of the rule of law without fear or favour.
He urged the promoted officers to make meaningful decisions that further the organisation’s mandate of maintaining law and order in Zimbabwe.
“The post requires sober, energetic cadres who are technically and operationally positioned and attuned to drive the organisation’s objectives and goals with vigour.”
He said they were looked on as the foundation of wisdom, guidance, courage and outright professionalism in pooling and management of resources.
“The qualities are paramount when they impart wisdom to junior members of the organisation,” he said.
In a related issue, five officers were promoted to the ranks of inspector and chief inspectors in Mashonaland West.
Those promoted to the rank of inspector from assistant inspector include Bruce Chinyani, Helena Mahonde, Washington Taderera and Ngoni Chimwa while Thomas Chimungwe was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major.
Insp Gibson Mufuka who was officer incharge Darwendale was promoted to Chief Inspector.
Officer Commanding police Mashonaland West province Senior Assistant Commissioner Rangarirai Mushaurwa officiated at the parade and read Commissioner General Chihuri’s speech.
