who was last week hospitalised after being diagnosed with a heart problem.
Chikafa, who is currently relying on a machine that supplies him with oxygen, already owes the specialist who is treating him US$680.
This bill has to be settled today in cash. Chikafa said other hospital bills have so far been covered by his personal Cimas Medical Aid since his contract with Chicken Inn does not provide such a facility.
“I called my boss at Chicken Inn so that I could find out if my monthly salary was going to be deposited into my bank account or I would receive it in cash.
“However, they said they will be in town camping at St Lucia Park since they have a game with CAPS United over the weekend (today).
“Then I would be able to know how I will get the money. I was also trying to find out if I will be able to get additional money as an advance to top up my salary and settle this bill,” he said.
Players’ contracts normally define what a player gets and most players have found themselves isolated when they face health challenges.
Chicken Inn club secretary, Obert Masara, said they were not aware that their player needed money to cover expenses as they were under the impression that he was under medical cover.
He said they will assist their player financially.
“We have been talking to his wife I think some days back but we had not been told about his financial challenges.
“This because we were under the impression that he has medical cover.
“So I think that part is because of a break down in communication,” he said.
On when the money would be released Masara said they had to follow company protocol.
Chikafa’s coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube also said he was not aware of his player’s condition and only read about it in newspapers.
“When he left I helped him with fuel as I advised him to be with his wife who could watch over him.
“But I did not know that he was now in hospital.”
Chikafa is in stable condition.
