Chikanda dumped out of Zim jnr tourney

TOP seed Alosha Chikanda was dumped out of the semi-finals of the Zimbabwe Junior Closed tennis tournament at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

The pre-tournament favourite was defeated by Andrew Kunaka 1-6, 6-7 to fall by the wayside.

As expected, Richard Ngwarwi booked his place for the final of the Under-18 boys section.

Ngwarwi defeated Takunda Dube 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

He will play Kunaka in today’s final.

The Under-18 girls’ top-seed, Tariro Dembo, continued with her fine form as she beat Rutendo Makamure 6-0, 6-1 to book a place in the final.

She will meet Tanyaradzwa Magunje who beat Danai Chinamo 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in three sets.

In the boys Under-14 category, Valentine Munyawiri will take on Anesu Kwirirai in the final.

Munyawiri beat Hensley Masara 6-4 6-3 while Kwirirai outplayed Brett Hounsell 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

The event will end today with the finals at Sports Club.
