CHIKANGWE Stadium, the home to newly-promoted Northern Region Division One soccer outfit Karoi United, is under renovations ahead of the new season. Karoi United will begin preparations for the new season next week and will be using Chikangwe Secondary School for their training sessions.
Karoi United chairman Kenson Kamponda said their official home ground is under renovations.
“We will be using Chikangwe Secondary School for our first pre-season training which will begin this coming week as Chikangwe is under renovations.
“The renovations begun last week and they will see the changing rooms improve as well as the perimeter fence. We need to match Division One standards hence the renovations and the goalpost will be painted while the lawn will be given much attention,” Kamponda said. Karoi United, who spent some years in Division Two, returned to the Northern Region after going for a record 36-match unbeaten run last season and have since reshuffled their executive. Kamponda becomes the club chairman and will have Ziyambi Chenjerai as his vice, while Hustings Mtikana is the secretary.
Luckson Phiri, who guided the team last season, remains as the head coach and will have Stapples Sibanda as his assistant.
The team is likely to add eight new players for the coming season and they will have some trials from Tuesday.
Meanwhile, another Northern Division One outfit Starbill will start their pre-season training next week as well.
The Highfield-based side is remaining at Gwanzura and they will be back to business next week.
Starbill survived relegation on the last day last season and team manager Kuda Mugari believes early preparations may help them finish on a respectable position this season.
“We will start our preparations next week and we are going to retain most of our players and we have a sound junior policy which will help us as well,” Mugari said.
