The Chikomba Rural District Council has procured a borehole drilling rig using devolution funds and a grader using its own funds, as the local authority works round the clock to improve service delivery for the benefit of ratepayers.
The equipment, which has since been commissioned, is aimed at boosting service delivery in Chikomba.
It is expected that the rig will complement the borehole drilling programme launched by the Government as well as that of the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency.
The grader will be used for road rehabilitation projects across Chikomba District.
Speaking during the commissioning of the brand new equipment at a function held at Mupatsi Business Centre in Chikomba recently, Chikomba RDC chief executive officer Mr Bullen Chiwara said they will work to ensure quality service delivery for the people.
“We are happy to be commissioning the drill rig and we look forward to ending water challenges in our district,” said Mr Chiwara.
“We are hopeful that the beneficiaries will also be able to do several income generation projects due to the constant availability of water.
“This rig was bought using devolution funds. We also have a grader which we are commissioning now. This grader was bought by council funds.”
Chikomba East Constituency winner of the recent elections, who is the Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona, commended Chikomba RDC for channelling funds towards procurement of the equipment.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa for availing devolution funds used to procure some of the equipment for Chikomba RDC and also commend the local authority for using the funds productively,” he said.
“The equipment will go a long way in improving service delivery for Chikomba people.”
Amai Mudavanhu from Mupatsi in Chikomba thanked the Government for the funds and the Chikomba RDC for utilising the disbursed funds productively and for the benefit of all.
“It’s all about good service delivery,” she said. “We are happy, especially that the rig will be used to drill boreholes from where we will get potable water and the grader will be used to rehabilitate our roads for easier access to social services. Thank you to the Government and our local authority for this.”
Meanwhile, Mutoko Rural District Council also commissioned a refuse compactor procured using council funds.
The council channelled US$125 000 towards the purchase of the refuse compactor, which will go a long way in improving refuse collection.
“Before the refuse compactor (came), the council has been relying on either a small truck or tractor for the work and this was not sufficient given the growth of Mutoko Centre,” said Mutoko RDC chief executive officer Mr Biriat Tasarira.
“The Mutoko RDC is highly indebted to the Second Republic, which is walking the talk where devolution funds are disbursed for some other projects hence creating space for other projects through own funds.
“Courtesy of the devolution funds, the Council has so far recorded a plethora of achievements such as the construction of a science and computer lab at Chatiza High School in Ward 14, completed Chisambiro Clinic in Ward 18, Bepeta Clinic in Ward 2, Chitora Primary School in Mutoko Centre.
“In addition to that, the council has managed to embark on recapitalisation through purchase of a backhoe loader, borehole drill rig, and tipper truck.
“Going forward, the council is aiming to construct the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) certified landfill on the western side of the Mutoko Centre.”
