SOLOISTS Steve Chikoti and Steve Makoni will be touring Masvingo this weekend where they will stage joint shows.
The pair will start their gigs at Stop Over hangout tonight then another show tomorrow. Accompanying the pair will be percussionist John Mambira of the popular group Bongo Love.
Besides having the same first names, Chikoti and Makoni are well known for their hilarious lyrics which they effortlessly deliver to their fans. Added to this, they are both social commentators.
Well, tonight Chikoti or simply Bra Steve to fans, performing in Masvingo is like going back to his roots.
He started his solo career in Masvingo before he moved to Mutare where he is now based.
In an interview, Chikoti promised a wonderful time at the gig saying he was going to give fans a foretaste of new songs from his upcoming album.
“Masvingo is a special place for me because that is where it all started. In fact, this show is a reunion with my friend Makoni because we had our first joint show in Masvingo and it was a huge success. The weekend’s show is going to be explosive and that is our promise,” Bra Steve said.
His new offering titled “Live @Alliance” is due for release next week. The DVD album features songs from his two albums “Wega” and “Nzendo (Journeys)”.
His repertoire includes some laid back numbers and almost always he engages the crowd by inviting them to sing along with him making it an inclusive show.
As for Makoni, he is not new when it comes to staging joint shows.
Always a joy to watch on stage, the “Zvachonyana” singer is expected to strut his acoustic guitar with finesse and strum some of golden oldies such as “Maidei”, “Sabhuku Nedhongi”, “Mambo Haagadzwi” “Nevatorwa”, “Chingaira”, “Vakasasana” and “Ruvimbo” as well as sample some of the new songs from the album “Munibho”.
