Chikozho dies

PROMINENT Masvingo bus owner Abraham Chikozho has died. He was 42. Chikozho, who owned shops, a fleet of buses and haulage trucks died in a head-on collision on Saturday evening, according to his family.

The businessman was driving to Harare and was alone when his car was involved in a head-on collision with a UD truck at the 20km peg along Chivhu Road, said Goodness Chikozho, his brother.

He is survived by four children — three girls and one boy. His wife, Angela Murindi, died in 2006.

Chikozho was buried yesterday at his homestead in Chitowa Village under Headman Madyangove in Chivi.

His brother Albert Chikozho, speaking at the burial, said his younger brother was a pillar of strength in the family and a successful businessman who had managed to relive his late father’s legacy.

The father, who was Abraham’s namesake, died in 2004. Albert said he drove to the accident scene as soon as he was notified that his brother had been involved in an accident.

“I found my brother still trapped within the wreck of his car. Police were at the scene but no one was trying to assist. I asked for help from motorists who had stopped by,” he said.

He said Chikozho died upon admission to Chivhu Hospital.

Chivi and Mwenezi Senator Cde Josiah Hungwe said the late Chikozho was a role model to young business people. Masvingo mayor Councillor Hubert Fidze said: “The City has lost one of its stakeholders. He was a ratepayer since he had businesses in the city from which council was getting revenue and residents benefited through employment.”
