THE StarFM Breakfast Club broadcasting from Bulawayo is a hit judging by the response from listeners. The programme, whose crew comprises DJ Napster (Napoleon Nyanhi), Nikki (Nicola Ndoro) and Langa (Langelihle Ndlovu), has been broadcasting from a studio housed at The Chronicle offices since Monday and the response from listeners has been overwhelming.

This has seen another programme, Enkundleni, being added to the line up and will be broadcast from Bulawayo tomorrow from 9PM to 10PM.

The show, presented by Mkhululi ‘IKhalanga lePlumtree’ Ncube, tackles social, cultural, religious and traditional issues that affect people in a family set up.

“Our target audience is the whole family although on certain topics we may include age restriction. We aim to educate, entertain and get people talking about things that affect them in their day to day lives. The hosts of the show will be Mkhululi Ncube, Chief Koti and Siphathisiwe Mpofu,” said StarFM Brand and Online Manager Godfrey Koti.

He said the station sought to engage the people of Bulawayo through all the platforms and no one would be left out.

“We’re going to ensure that we involve everybody from the region of Matabeleland. As much as Bulawayo is the centre of the region, we will ensure that everyone is on board and receiving equal representation from music to talk shows and many more,” said Chief Koti.

He added that although the StarFM Breakfast Club would be broadcasting from the city till Friday, they were working on programmes that would be broadcast from Bulawayo full time.

Nikki said the crew were having a great time in the City of Kings.

“This is the first time that I’ll be staying this long in Bulawayo and it’s been a blast so far.

“The reception we’re getting from the people is wonderful contrary to what you hear people say (that people in the City of Kings are hostile to people from Harare). It’s a misconception. There’s also a misunderstanding that Bulawayo is slow but the reality is that it’s calm and there’s a big difference between the two. You can actually breathe here unlike the hustle and fast paced environment that’s in Harare,” Nikki said.

DJ Napster said he had also come to realise that the people of Bulawayo are proud of their culture and identity.

“Bulawayo is great and people are quite friendly. I’ve been to Entumbane, Egodini bus terminus and TM Hyper terminus. It’s been fun broadcasting from Bulawayo and on Friday we will be playing at The Groove nightclub so people who won’t be able to come through to the studio can come and join us for a party,” he said.

The Breakfast Club has visited a number of sites in the city such as the Natural History Museum in Bulawayo and The Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo statue.

The StarFM crew is also set to visit Makokoba, Mzilikazi and Mpopoma suburbs sometime during the week to engage listeners.
