Chikuni, who arrived just in time for Kugona Kunenge Kudada’s awards ceremony, described his experience at Platinum Stars as an “eye opener” and said he would implement the things he learnt at the Super Diski outfit at the Zvishavane club.
“The attachment at (Platinum) Stars was an eye opener for me as I learnt a lot of things especially in terms of handling players and how to conduct training sessions. I also learnt as a coach how to conduct myself professionally when dealing with players. Overally, those guys are a step ahead of us and are more professional than us and we should learn from them.
“I am definitely going to implement the things that I learnt there and blend it with our own practices here at FC Platinum so that we are at par with other professional clubs in Africa. Of course we are one of the most professionally run clubs in the country,” he said.
Chikuni’s flirtation at Dikwena which was fully sponsored by the club could be seen as a vote of confidence on the young coach whose future at the club has been subject to speculation after finishing the season eighth in the 16-team league — the club’s worst record since joining the league two seasons ago.
Speculation had been rife that Zambia’s assistant coach, Lucky Msiska and former Hwange gaffer, Tennant Chilumba, were likely to take over the reins at the ambitious side.
Meanwhile, FC Platinum is on the verge of loaning some of its senior players to other clubs in the Premiership in a move seen by many as trying to pacify and instill discipline in the team.
During the course of last season, the Zvishavane based side was rocked by player indiscipline which saw the club’s first choice goalkeeper, Tafadzwa Dube and Zephaniah Ngodzo being suspended.
Ngodzo has been linked with a move to Premiership debutants How Mine while former Dynamos defender Norman Togara is believed to be on his way to his roots — Chiredzi, where he is said to be on the verge of signing for Triangle which is also playing Premiership football this coming season.
Rowan Nenzou’s contract with the platinum miners ran out at the end of the season and the club did not renew it and indications are that the former Black Rhinos midfielder like Togara will also be trekking to the Lowveld but will be joining Zifa Eastern Region Division One outfit, Hippo Valley.
Incoming club president George Mawere when asked to comment, was tightlipped on the matter.
