CHIKURUBI’S SPECIAL INMATES

MORE than 500 inmates, who cannot stand trial because of their questionable state of sanity, received a rare treat at Chikurubi Maximum Prison on Saturday.

They are housed at the Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison Psychiatric Unit.

Businessman Leo Kambanga, the owner of Bruno Furniturez, cheered the spirits of the 513 inmates by providing them with food.

He said:

“I was not aware that there are people behind these high walls who are not allowed to stand trial,” said Kambanga.

“It’s so bad, the situation on both the inmates and those manning them is unbearable.

“It needs serious dedication to duty and patience.

“I feel blessed to interact with such people that is why I decided not to feed them only but to serve them the food too.”

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) has more than 1000 inmates under the psychiatric units countrywide.
