THE child Vice President of the Junior Parliament, Theophilus Beans, and child parliamentarian, Nicole Jirivengwa, are part of the Zimuto High School students in Togo for the Sustainable Environmental Conservation Trust (SECTA) competitions against other African students.

The competition, which started on Sunday at the University De Lome, ends on Monday.

The Reformed Church in Zimbabwe-run school from Masvingo, is hoping to bring the trophy home. Zimuto High School headmaster, Harris Mashava, said he is proud of his team.

“This team representing Zimbabwe from Zimuto High School in Masvingo came out number two during the national competitions held at Grace Mugabe High School in Mazowe in April this year.

“Participants include the Zimbabwe Child Parliament’s junior vice president, Theophilus Beans, who is doing Lower Sixth and specialising in Sciences, fellow Child parliamentarian Nicole Jirivengwa doing Lower Sixth (Arts), Solace Zunza Upper Sixth (Sciences) and Vespasian Makadho, an Upper Sixth Sciences student,” he said.

Beans made headlines this year when he developed a smart walking stick.

Mashava added: “Our Science Club is a traditional exhibitor at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).

“Zimuto is among four schools that are set to receive an international award, The Zimbabwe Community Trailblazers Award, this coming January.”

He acknowledged the role which was played by philanthropist and academic Dr Johannes Marisa in assisting the school.

“Great assistance has come from former students such as Dr Johannes Marisa, who has put an electric borehole and construction of a state-of-the-art accommodation block for girls, Dr Chagonda, Musadaidzwa and Gay Kanonge, to mention but a few,” he said.

The school has also managed to handle cases of bullying as well as taking a leading role in fighting drug abuse and sexual harassment. Zimuto High has produced influential figures like Mike Bimha, Virginia Mabhiza, Dr Marisa, Dr Godfrey Chagonda, Tawanda Fushai, Advocate Tapiwa Muchineripi businessman Alex “Mashwede” Mashamhanda.
