CHILD President Ntandoyenkosi Moyo yesterday urged youths to participate in large numbers in the forthcoming harmonised elections set for 31 July. Speaking at Milton High School after being honoured by Friends of Joshua Trust for the role he played during the commemorations of the life of the late Vice-President Dr Joshua Nkomo, Moyo said youths have a responsibility to play in the coming elections.
The 18-year-old Lower Sixth pupil at Milton said youths should vote wisely and elect leaders who have the interest of the people at heart.
“Youths have a role to play in the forthcoming elections as they will have to vote wisely and elect leaders who will represent the interest of the people,” he said.

Moyo was given a token of appreciation in the form of a portrait of Dr  Nkomo with former Zambian leader President Kenneth Kaunda.
He was also given a novel written by Dr Joshua Nkomo, The Story of My Life.

Friends of Joshua Trust’s chief executive officer, Miss Beverly Pullen, dismissed views that the Child President was being used by political parties to satisfy certain political ends.

“The lecture that he delivered at the Small City Hall was meant to lecture young people about the Joshua Nkomo legacy,” said Miss Pullen.
She applauded Moyo for showing interest in the legacy of Father Zimbabwe.

“This is evident when he joined the lecture series in the commemoration of the late                                                                                                            Vice-President Dr Nkomo, as an organisation we are happy because as the Child President he should know his roots, how Zimbabwe came to be, and the visions of our forefathers and then he takes it from there,” said Miss Pullen.

Moyo said during his term of office he would focus on the challenges facing youths, compile the challenges and forward them to the Parliament of Zimbabwe.
