adminHoards of children in Mutoko district thronged the community’s magistrate courts last weekend to witness a grand event of the official opening of the Victim Friendly Court.
The historic event was welcomed by young children in the area since its inception has reduced the burden both the parents and children had been enduring since 1980.
The VFC will help the community to access justice and allows the Judicial Service Commission to improve its service.
The court was built by the JSC in collaboration with Plan International Zimbabwe, a non-profit organisation.
In an interview with Cool Lifestyle, children in the area said the VFC will go a long way in fighting against child abuse cases in the village.
“It is a welcome development in our community since most of us used to travel long distances to places as far as Marondera to access a VFC which specialises on children not to face their assailants that hinders progress in a trial or distorts evidence,” said Hazel Ngonde.
Nyamuzura High School Form Three student Leah Chinako hailed the initiative saying, “We would like to thank all those who made this event a success following the problems
we have been going through and as a result of this kind of court, most child abuse perpetrators went unpunished with the victims
failing to pursue their matters to far away courts.”
It is the plea of most children that child abusers should face the wrath of the law to give a lesson to other criminals.
The well attended event saw various schools in the district taking part in speech and drama to entertain the shrags. – CL Reporter.
