Chilean students strike to continue

to demand public education and an end to profits at educational centres.
The announcement was made by Freddy Fuentes, the spokesman of Cones, whose main leaders are meeting in the southern Valdivia City to analyse the steps to follow in the coming months.
The leaders of university federations, also meeting in the northern locality of Copiapo this weekend, ratified their participation in the national strike of the Chilean workers, summoned for the next 72 hours.
“We summon all workers, citizens, and students of our country to mobilise with more commitment and strength on August 24 and 25”, said a statement of the Student Confederation of Chile (Confech) released in this capital on Sunday. High school and university students rejected the last proposal made by the Government because they consider that it does not guarantee universal and free access to education in Chile and does not put an end to profit in education. The proposal presented by the minister of Education, Felipe Bulnes, reaffirms the neo-liberal market model . – Prensa Latina.
