Chimanimani Arts Festival: A good time was had by all

thronged Chimanimani Village, sang along, danced and enjoyed an arts extravaganza.
Men, women and children never went back home to sleep.
Women came with babies strapped on their backs, guzzlers imbibed through and through, the frail braved the chilly weather by covering themselves with blankets, while three bonfires did it for those who loved that kind of warmth.
The tired and the sloshed slept by the bonfire or just on the dance floor and that was how they enjoyed the annual event.
Others came in cars and other on wheelchairs, all to enjoy themselves and at the end it was worth it.
The Mt Darwin Heroes Gala having stolen the limelight and attracted the who is who of the entertainment industry, Chimanimani Arts Festival still has its own fair share with Mutare-based musician Jusa Mupostori hogging the limelight with polished performances.
Hungwe Stars, also based in Mutare, did not disappoint as they kept the crowd on its feet.
It was largely an affair of the upcoming artistes but one thing that came out clear is that they were not playing for money but to send a loud and clear message to the musical industry.
All they need is a chance to perform at events like the festival and market themselves and get noticed.
“This is an arts festival for the people of Chimanimani and entertainment does not mean the big names.
“Who said there is no entertainment without Oliver Mtukudzi, Tongai Moyo or Alick Macheso?
“Jusa Mupostori and the Hungwe Stars have done a good job. I think you saw for yourself, people really enjoyed themselves.
“I am happy we successfully held the annual festival, even without the big name music stars,” said master of ceremonies Paul Derera.
