Chimanimani Rural District Council has prioritised the completion of the Hotsprings Clinic ahead of other projects scheduled for this year to ensure that nearby communities start accessing critical health care.
The construction of the clinic started last year after council allocated $1,6 million from devolution funds, but work had stalled due to the restrictions imposed by Government as part of Covid-19 mitigation measures.
Chimanimani RDC chairman Mr Reuben Majee said completing the clinic was more important since villagers had limited access to health institutions particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a result, council had decided to channel available resources towards the project while waiting for the release of this year’s devolution funds.
“The structure of the clinic was completed save for a few touch ups, but when officials from the Ministry of Health and Child Care came to inspect, they recommended that we put in some additional fittings. So we have pulled some resources from other existing projects so that we can channel the funds towards those extra fittings which were not budgeted for originally. We will resume the other projects but for now priority is on the Hotsprings Clinic,” he said.
The clinic will cater for thousands of villagers from surrounding areas as well as those who frequent the business centre from the nearby Chiadzwa diamond fields.
For 2021, Treasury allocated Chimanimani $194 million under devolution and part of the funds will be channelled towards completion of all outstanding projects.
