PORTUGAL-BASED Zimbabwean forward Cobert Chimedza says he is enjoying life in South Western Europe where he is shining for AC Marinhese.
The 21-year-old left winger rose from the bench and scored the winning penalty when AC Marinhese beat Anadia 7-6 on Sunday, in a Taca de Portugal third-round match. The two teams had played a goalless draw before the contest spilled into the lottery. With the scores at 6-6 in the sudden death penalty shoot-out, Chimedza stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to win the tie for AC Marinhese, who will now face giants Sporting Lisbon in the fourth round. Chimedza joined AC Marinhese on a one-year loan deal from Portuguese top-flight side Gil Vicente.
“It was a tough match, the reason why it had to be decided on penalties was, moreover, the sudden death penalties.
“The good thing is I managed to hold my nerve and score the decisive kick,” Chimedza said.
Added the Warriors prospect: “I am now looking forward to playing against Sporting Lisbon, it’s a good platform for me.
“I will continue to work hard, and at the same time pay tribute to my coaches and teammates.” Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Chimedza moved to England six years ago after being scouted by English Football League Two side MK Dons, with whom he eventually parted ways upon his move to Portugal.
