GABORONE United defender Tatenda Gora has thrown his support behind his former club, GreenFuel, insisting they have what it takes to survive relegation.
With just three games remaining in the season, the relegation battle has become more intense.
GreenFuel currently sits on 34 points. Two victories from their final three matches could give them the lifeline. Five points separate 10th-placed Highlanders (36 points) from 17th-positioned Yadah Stars (31 points), leaving a host of clubs entangled in the dogfight.
Three teams will still have to join Kwekwe United by the end of week 34.
Gora, an integral part of GreenFuel’s history, was instrumental in both earning the club their maiden promotion and subsequently ensuring survival in their debut season.
“I am hopeful that this current crop of players, whom I believe are capable, will find the heart and will for the badge,” said Gora.
“They must ensure the people of Chisumbanje continue to enjoy top-flight football at their doorstep.”
He said Premiership action is important for the community.
“Top-flight football means everything to the local people. I witnessed their joy when we first won promotion and then survived that first year. Now, I hope everyone at the club will play their part in extracting the absolute best from the team for this final push.” GreenFuel, who demolished Kwekwe United 5-0 in their last outing, will shift focus to face TelOne.
TelOne have been struggling of late at home.
Meanwhile, Gora’s Gaborone United will be facing log leaders Sua Flamingoes tomorrow in the Botswana Premier League.
Gaborone are trailing six points behind Flamingoes but with four games in hand.
However, Gora won’t be part of the match due to suspension after accumulating three yellow cards.
