TOP Bulawayo volleyball club, Chimoio will miss the Easter Holidays Zimbabwe Open to be held in Hwange.
Club director Stan Manduna, confirmed on Wednesday that they would not be participating because a number of their top players are involved in college and universities championships over the next week.

He said it was sad because they had pulled resources together to make the trip but when some of their players became unavailable, they had no choice but to consider skipping the event.

Matabeleland North are hosting the tournament for the first time in its history. In line with efforts to take volleyball to the masses, the Mxolisi Ndlovu led Zimbabwe Volleyball Association last hosted the tournament in Mutare which is in Manicaland Province and this year Matabeleland North is hosting.

“It was a very difficult decision to make, we had prepared for this tournament, most of our players are students and are taking part in the universities and colleges games. We had put resources together for this tournament, we will now channel into other tournaments,” said Manduna.

Last year, Chimoio finished third in the national league title play-offs.
Teams from all over Zimbabwe are expected to take part in the tournament in both the men and women’s categories.
