Chimombe, Mpofu appear in court on street lights charges

Magistrate Ashton Dube challenged Machika’s justification, saying his actions were a direct violation of the child’s rights and an obstruction of due legal process.

Businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu have appeared in court on allegations of using false documents to win a US$9 million Harare City Council tender for the rehabilitation of street lights.
Chimombe and Mpofu, who were brought to court by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission officials, appeared before Harare regional magistrate, Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa.

The matter was deferred to tomorrow as the defense counsel of the accused persons intends to make an application challenging their placement on remand.

The duo, who were representing Juluka Enndo Joint Venture, allegedly submitted false documents, resulting in the company winning the tender.

In January this year, the City of Harare embarked on the rehabilitation of streetlights along the capital’s roads.

Chimombe and Mpofu are also facing fraud charges in another case emanating from the Presidential Goat Scheme after they received US$7 million under the Presidential Goat Scheme and failed to supply the goats.
