SCOTTLAND Football Club, much like Black Rhinos, made history by winning the league title as debutants in the Premier Soccer League.
However, the club’s impact extends far beyond this achievement.
The well-assembled Harare team has been filling stadiums, attracting socialites, dedicated fans and international guests alike.
Known as Mabviravira, the club has also caught the attention of younger fans and ladies, who have often been absent from football matches.
In line with Brazilian legend Pelé’s description of football as the “beautiful game,” the excitement surrounding Mabviravira is palpable as they take the sporting world by storm.
One loyal fan and Chimurenga musician, Alvin Negomo, has joined the Mabviravira movement by releasing a song titled, “Hapa Mihwe-Mihwe,” dedicated to Scottland FC in celebration of their triumph. After dropping the audio last year, he has now released a video, hoping to inspire the champions as they prepare for their upcoming African tour next year.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Negomo congratulated Scottland FC and its primary sponsors, Scott Sakupwanya and businessman Wicknell Chivayo, for their support of the team.
“I am not only a musician, but also a soccer fan who has always supported the team since its days in the lower divisions,” he shared.
“Last year, when the team was promoted, I composed a song at Diro Digital Productions in Glen Norah, Harare, but I couldn’t present it to the club president because I was unable to see him.
“I wanted to deliver the copy in person, but sometimes people like Honourable Sakupwanya are very protected, and you need a strong connection to meet with him.
“I have now completed the video, and it is my wish to personally deliver a copy to him and congratulate him for investing in the youth. As a fan of the club, I would also be glad to meet him and shake hands with the president of my favourite team.”
Negomo, whose video was produced on a shoestring budget yet still captures the team’s triumph, has been trending on social media.
“As a loyal fan, I had to go out of my way to shoot this video, which I released four days ago. It’s a video I want the club owners and sponsors to take note of,” he shared.
Negomo, who leads The Rozvi Spirit, a 16-piece band, has vowed to use his influence to promote and motivate policymakers to continue changing lives.
“We only live once, and having people who are passionate about sports is a blessing in this area, especially when drugs are wreaking havoc.
“People of Honourable Scott’s calibre are a blessing in this era when sports are being used to curb crime and drug abuse. He has done a lot for the Mabvuku-Tafara community, and Zimbabwe would be a better place if we had 10 people like him” he noted.
Soccer has, over the years, been accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds, promoting inclusivity and participation across diverse groups.
