The Chinese community in Zimbabwe yesterday handed over a children’s home to the community of Hatcliffe. Chinese Ambassador Huang Ping said Hossana Love in Africa Children’s Home will provide a conducive environment for the growth and protection of children. “From today on, those children know that they are not alone and there is a decent place that they call their home and their potential is the only limit to their dreams.“I believe that the children we help today will become young champions for a prosperous Zimbabwe and the messengers for China-Zimbabwe friendship,” he said.
He said Zimbabwe and China will continue to maintain good relations.
“These schools all symbolise the friendship between China and Zimbabwe and today we are witnessing another important project that will benefit children most in need of help.
“As long as we all work together to cultivate the tree, by constantly giving fertiliser, water and care to it, the tree of China-Zimbabwe friendship will grow strong and stay ever-green for generations to come,” he said.
“The Chinese embassy have also brought here today some maize meal, cooking oil and radio-sets, in addition to the furniture previously donated. The embassy will continue to do everything possible to help Zimbabwean children unlock their potential and reach out for their dreams.”
Minister of State for Harare province Cde Miriam Chikukwa, who also attended the function, applauded Hossana Love in Africa for accommodating orphaned children.
“Your gesture in opening this home is most welcome as it complements Government’s efforts at a time when we have limited resources due to a variety of challenges including the imposed sanctions by the Western nations.
“Your efforts will go a long way in giving the disadvantaged children among us the love, comfort and peace of mind that they deserve at this early age,” she said.
The children’s home administrator, Mr Abel Chivambo, said it accommodates 50 children.
Zimbabwe Chinese Business Association Chinese Federation of Zimbabwe and Chinese companies such as China-Africa People-to-people Friendship Action, Sino-Zim Cement, Love in Africa and other individuals, contributed towards the project with funds, furniture, construction material, playground apparatus and food.
