China helps improve Zambia’s health system

CHINGOLA, Zambia. – China’s continued support towards the health sector in Africa has been impressive and will bring about improved health service delivery in African countries such as Zambia, said Zambian medics in recent interviews.

Mutumbi Zyambo, a private consultant in gynecology, said he has seen a lot of Zambian doctors trained in China, which is very commendable.

“With the expanded training and technical support from the Chinese government, more will be achieved in the health sector in Zambia,” he said.

Zyambo said Zambia, like any other developing country, needs more doctors to cope with the increased population, adding that he is hopeful that China will expand the training of health personnel in Zambia and Africa as a whole.

Another health personnel Benny Banda, who works at a clinic in Chingola, said the medical equipment coming from China has helped in quality health delivery.

“We have seen major operations being done locally as a result of the medical equipment from China,” he said, adding that patients with cancer who preferred to travel to China were being operated on locally.

He also said the essential drugs coming from China are supplementing the health service delivery in Zambia. – Xinhua
