China is our inspiration – Mugabe

ZIMBABWE, like China, looks forward to the elimination of capitalism, class, racial and tribal divisions, the Prime Minister, Mr Mugabe, said in Peking last night.

In a dinner speech thanking China for its assistance during the liberation struggle, he said the overthrow of imperialism and capitalism was being sought through socialism and non-alignment.

“Just as the revolution has made a new society in your country so shall we build a new and just socialist order in Zimbabwe.”

He said Zimbabwe had been inspired by Chinese ideology, military strategies and world strategy in international relations.

“It is often said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and this is in the hope that we in Zimbabwe will be able to show as much progress as you in achieving our parallel goals,” the Prime Minister told his hosts. Mr Mugabe expressed support for a united China and a united Korea, adding that one of the first acts by his Government was to sever any links that had existed between Taiwan and the previous governments.

The Chinese Premier, Mr Zhao Ziyang, praised Zimbabwe’s record since Independence in tackling both internal and external problems. The significant successes you have achieved in the short span of a year show that all these internal and external policies are wise and realistic as they conform to the national conditions of Zimbabwe.”

Mr Zhao said that since the Second World War Africa had been playing a greater role in world affairs, particularly in opposing power politics and safeguarding world peace.
