Chinamasa lights three schools

MINISTER of Finance and Economic Development, Cde Patrick Chinamasa, has commissioned electricity at three schools and a health centre in the rural parts of his Makoni Central constituency. Cde Chinamasa commissioned the electricity projects at Mangunda Primary School, Nyahukwe Primary School and Nyahukwe Clinic last Saturday.

Power has also been connected to Dumbamwe Secondary School and various trading centres, health facilities and water supply systems in the constituency.
The developmental projects are worth thousands of dollars.

Cde Chinamasa said their main focus was to supply electricity to all primary schools in the constituency in compliance and acceleration of Government’s ICT and e-learning vision.

“This project to provide electricity to these schools will ensure that thousands of school children extend their learning time, have access to a computer and provide the teachers with online resources,” said Cde Chinamasa.

He said more installation work was underway in rural schools and clinics in the constituency.
His initiative was lauded by educationists as a positive development that will help Government’s proposal to accelerate the uptake of ICT in all public schools.
Even though large-scale electricity networks have existed since independence most rural schools primary and secondary schools have no electricity whatsoever.

Most rural school children attend schools with no electricity leaving them without power for lighting, computers, internet, printers and more.
This has huge implications on their education.

Without lighting they have very limited reading and studying times, without computers they cannot learn computer skills, without internet they are cut off from a world of free teaching tools and resources, without printers it is very difficult for teachers to create critical educational materials.
