China’s Jiangsu University expands global reach

Jiangsu University recently launched its overseas alumni association branches in Nigeria and Zimbabwe, thereby signifying a pivotal milestone in the university’s endeavours to strengthen connections between China and Africa through its extensive alumni network.
Dr Lazarus Dokora, the UNESCO Chair at BUSE’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, and eminent members of the Zimbabwean academic and business community attended the virtual launch.

Professor Cai Yingfeng, Vice Chancellor of Jiangsu University, delivered the keynote address, urging former students to serve as ambassadors of the institution.

He emphasised the significance of leveraging the alumni’ professional networks and expertise to foster academic and research collaborations between Jiangsu and institutions in their respective countries.

Jiangsu University has also established alumni branches in India, Pakistan, Ghana, and Nigeria.

Dr Takuriramunashe Famba, the inaugural director of the newly formed Jiangsu University International Alumni Association Zimbabwe Chapter and former chairperson of the Accounting Department at the Bindura University of Science Education, expressed gratitude for China’s support to Zimbabwe, which goes back to the days of the liberation struggle.

He said Jiangsu University currently has over 40 alumni in Zimbabwe.

The newly formed branch will provide a platform for Jiangsu University alumni residing in Zimbabwe to network, share knowledge and collaborate through career development workshops, exchange programmes, and supporting joint research initiatives.
