Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe enchanted by Bulawayo’s Victorian architecture and rich history

CHINESE Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding has been mesmerised by Bulawayo’s tourist attractions and the city’s rich history complemented by its Victorian-style ancient buildings.

The buildings represent the highest standards of Victorian architecture that correspond with the long reign of Queen Victoria, who ruled Great Britain from 1837 to 1901.

In a post on X, the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) said Ambassador Zhou who visiting the city for the first, met Bulawayo Mayor Councillor David Coltart at the Bulawayo City Hall on Thursday.

“The mayor, His Worship, Cllr David Coltart today met with the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Zhou Ding. The Ambassador highlighted that this was his first visit to Bulawayo and appreciated the city’s rich history and architecture and tourism sites which included the neighbouring Matopos National Park,” posted BCC.

“He advised that Zimbabwe and China had good relations which have led to visible investment in the country.”

BCC said Cllr Coltart highlighted that the city was interested in working with China in infrastructure development projects in water augmentation, sanitation and the informal sector.

“He added that the City will be willing to learn from the country and draw from its expertise in ensuring certainty in the business environment for investor confidence. The Embassy noted that the country will be willing to work with the city in developing and growing the City of Bulawayo.”
