JOURNALISTS drawn from various media houses across the country are attending a two-day summer school in Masvingo where veteran scribes are imparting practical skills to media students from local colleges and universities.

The event was organised by the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ), with support from the Friedrick Nauman Foundation (FNF).

Senior journalists from both the public and private media, among them Herald Editor Victoria Ruzvidzo, investigative journalist Bridget Mananavire and Zandile Ndlovu, are the facilitators.

Speaking during the workshop, VMCZ national programmes officer, Mrs Caroline Kuhudzai said the annual workshop is aimed at equipping media students as they prepare to go to the field.

“As VMCZ, one of our thrusts is to provide capacity building for journalists and students from institutions of higher learning across the country. We have, therefore, brought together students studying journalism to be mentored by senior journalists in the industry and prepare them for their careers,” she said.

During her presentation, Rudzidzo urged the students to research several beats before getting the field.
