GOVERNMENT has commended the Chamber of Chinese Enterprises in Zimbabwe and China Zimbabwe Exchange Centre for hosting a Zimbabwe Chinese Enterprises Job Fair to bring together job seekers and employers to create a union between the two.
Speaking at a recent the job fair in Harare, the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare July Moyo said the initiative will go a long way in promoting the decent work agenda and ease the challenges that job seekers encounter when looking for employment.
Minister Moyo said as Government, they were fully aware that the priority for young people was to attain quality education in their endeavour to fight poverty through getting decent jobs with reasonable incomes and related conditions of employment.
“This event is a direct response to the desire and commitment by President Mnangagwa in prioritising job creation as part of the national Vision 2030,” he said.
“Government’s commitment is well spelt out in the National Development Strategy 1 which seeks to create 760 000 jobs by 2025.
“This event is therefore contributing immensely towards providing employment opportunities for our citizens which in turn will uplift the living standards of our people.
“Turning to job seekers, this job fair is a launchpad for your job search endeavours as it connects you to leading employers in your field of interest and presents to you a wide array of job opportunities.
“We hope you will all seize the opportunity to meet and interact with these potential employers and explore fulfilling career paths.”
Minister Moyo said the fair would equip job seekers with invaluable insights into prospective career paths and help forge lasting relationships with employers.
He said it was also pleasing to note that there were more than 600 jobs on offer at the job fair and the jobs available ranged from junior to senior positions.
Ambassador of China to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding said Zimbabwe and China have enjoyed a long-standing friendship which consistently served as a driving force for the two countries’ mutually beneficial cooperation.
“Chinese investments have played a key role in driving Zimbabwe’s economic and social progress. The Chinese investments mean not only tax revenues, forex earnings and job opportunities, but also technology transfer, capacity building and talent improvement.
“I am glad to see that Chinese enterprises have also actively fulfilled their corporate social responsibilities by building roads, schools, clinics, libraries, drilling boreholes and supporting students with scholarships. These actions have not only helped drive Zimbabwe’s industrialisation, modernisation and realisation of the Vision 2030 but also deepen the bonds between our two peoples,” he said.
Permanent Secretary for Industry and Commerce Dr Thomas Ushe said the event was aimed at creating a platform for Chinese employers operating in Zimbabwe to recruit highly skilled and talented individuals who will contribute to the employer’s interests and the country’s development agenda.
Dr Ushe said the initiative showed the commitment by the private sector, particularly the Chinese business community, in complementing Government’s efforts to create job opportunities and enhance human capital development for its citizenry.
“The Zimbabwe Chinese Enterprises Job Fair also aims to strengthen the ever-growing excellent relations and sound bilateral cooperation between China and Zimbabwe,” he said.
“This has resulted in China becoming one of the largest contributors to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Zimbabwe. With initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), BRICS, and Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Chinese enterprises are expected to create a surge in job opportunities.”
