AFROCHINE Smelting has started a road rehabilitation exercise in Chegutu district as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
The exercise is running under the company’s 2021 fourth-quarter phase of activities aimed at improving the lives of the communities it operates in.
Currently, the company is working on a fore-court and rehabilitation exercise at Chegutu District Hospital, the biggest referral health institution in the area servicing at least 25 clinics.
Speaking during the launch of the company’s US$10 000 project at the hospital, Afrochine Smelting public relations officer, Mr Pardon Kufakunesu said they are focusing on health services providers.
“Here at Chegutu Hospital, we are doing the fore-court and road rehabilitation, starting from the Harare-Bulawayo Road and into the hospital itself. In the district, there are about 25 health institutions that all feed into this hospital and it is the main centre, we need people to access proper health facilities.
“During the rainy season, this place is impassable because of the mud and around August and September, there is a lot of dust that affects the health service providers and patients,” he said.
