He spelt out the areas of investment and co-operation that the two sides could engage in which included agriculture, mining, tourism, industry, and information technology and student exchanges. Governor Mushohwe said the Chinese, who are already mining in Chiadzwa under Anjin, were free to set up diamond polishing companies in Mutare to enhance the value of the minerals and to create employment.
He said there was also room for the setting up of cigarette manufacturing companies, fruit and vegetable canning industries as well as cellphone and computer manufacturing centres.
“We will give you preference in the investment opportunities. We want to consolidate our relationship,” he said.
The Governor said Manicaland being a mountainous province would want to copy from China road construction technologies that involve road tunnels through mountains and the use of cable cars. Head of delegation and mayor of Heifei Mr Zhang Qingjun said the bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and China should be deepened through engaging in more co-operation deals.
“We have a bright future together. Our friendship is long lasting and is on the rise in all areas including local government,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Mutare mayor Clr George Jerison, the town clerk Mr Obert Muzawazi and Manicaland provincial administrator Mr Fungai Mbetsa.
