ZIMBABWE’S professional golfer, Robson Chinhoi, has bounced into the top three of the Road to Kenya Open.

This follows his victory in the Safari Tour’s Season Four, at the par 72 Vet Lab Sports Club course in Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday.

He got another 50 points, after he won the event, where he pocketed Sh308,293 (about US$2 780), which included the prize money, and the payout from the bonus pool, for finishing with a score, better than three-under-par overall.

Ten players, including Chinhoi, registered sub-par rounds, throughout the week, and were rewarded, from the bonus pool.

Chinhoi’s third victory means he will be eligible, to take part in the Kenya Open, for the second year running.

Last year, he failed to make the cut, after he carded rounds of 67 and 75.

His countryman, Scott Vincent, made the cut.

“I am very happy winning here despite a tight final round where again, I made a slow start by dropping two shots,’’ said Chinhoi.

“My game, otherwise, is very solid and I am looking forward for a good season.

“I just need to work on a few things, on my game, and try and play under par rounds.”

The Royal Harare-based player is expected back in the country for the NAC Pro-Am, in a fortnight.

Tafara Mpofu, of Chapman, finished sixth after rounds of 69, 76, 71, 76.

He had taken the opening day lead on Sunday.

A second round, of four-over-par 76, saw Mpofu moving into second, where he was tied with Chinhoi, allowing them to play together, in the third round.

Chinhoi bogeyed the second and third holes before birdies, at the par-five fifth and par-three eighth, levelled the nine.

He birdied the 12th and 15th, for the day’s two under-par, and a tournament aggregate of five-under 283, to win by two shots.

The action heads for the third round, at the Great Rift Valley Golf Resort in Naivasha, this weekend.
