Chinhoyi Town Council has availed more than 2 000 hectares of land for residential purposes in fulfilment of the promise made by President Mugabe to youths recently. In an interview on the sidelines of a meeting to register those who will benefit in Chinhoyi recently, Councillor Charles Mutisi (Zanu-PF) said the land had been identified and allocation would start as soon as surveying and other prerequisites were completed.“Our President Cde Robert Mugabe promised to provide land for residential stands in urban areas and this is part of the process to fulfil that pledge,” said Clr Mutisi.

He said the number of people expected to benefit would only be determined after town planners surveyed the land.

National Consultative Assembly member Cde Tony Mwanza said the allocation of the stands was not a political gimmick.

“We have people who are now trying to get land, yet they dismissed the programme as a political gimmick.

“It was the same thing with the issue of stands,” he said.

People interviewed expressed happiness that they would finally have a place of their own to live.

Tapiwa Chitate hailed President Mugabe for fulfilling the promises he made.

“We are very happy that President Mugabe is always fulfilling the promises he makes to the people,” he said.

Land for residential development has been availed for people in Norton and Harare among other urban centres.
