In a recent incident, a 31-year-old man from Chinhoyi was arrested for breaking into a home and making off with gadgets valued at US$500.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), James Dzepasi Maravanyika (31) stood before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court on charges related to unlawful entry.

On the night of August 6, 2024, at approximately 0300 hours, the accused, in collaboration with Never Soza—who remains at large—intruded into the complainant’s residence while the homeowner was occupied elsewhere. They absconded with an Acer laptop, an external drive, and an iTel P40 mobile phone. Following a thorough investigation, the authorities managed to apprehend the accused. The iTel P40 mobile phone and external drive were recovered from the perpetrator. The recovery of the Acer laptop was facilitated by information provided by the accused, leading to its retrieval in Mapinga, where it had been abandoned by Never Soza. The total value of the stolen gadgets tallied up to USD 500, all of which were successfully recovered.

James Dzepasi Maravanyika was found guilty and subsequently sentenced to 12 months in prison. However, with 3 months of the sentence suspended, he is set to serve a 9-month jail term, as confirmed by the NPAZ.
