THE Chinhoyi Municipality has purchased a new Vertical Turbine Pump to augment its existing water pumps.
The water pumps have constantly been breaking down.
The Council will, however, not increase its pumping capacity and will continue to pump 22 megalitres of water per day.
Council’s public relations manager, Tichaona Mlauzi, said the new pump would be used to pump raw water from Hunyani River to the two treatment plants – Hunyani and Sprickely Kopje.

“The 350 horsepower pump is tailor made and expected to improve efficiency as it has a pumping capacity of 600 000 litres of raw water per hour over a distance of 2.1km,” said Mlauzi.
Chinhoyi Residents Association chairperson, Tapiwanaishe Chikondowa, told H- Metro that residents were going for days, and even weeks, without running water, due to the old pumps always breaking down.
“We hope the new pump will improve water supply and that the Council will be able to pump water to those areas that were not getting water.
“We hope things will improve now that ZESA has also improved,” said Chikondowa.
