Chinhoyi has converted Hunyani beerhall in Ward Four into a clinic, the fourth in the town after Mzari, Chikonohono and (Chinhoyi) Gadzema.
Council also runs two other clinics in Alaska and Shackleton, which were handed over to the town after the closure of the two mines nearly two decades ago.
Council’s director of health services, Doctor William Mayabo, said the new clinic would be offering all primary health care services offered by the other clinics with serious cases being referred to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital.
“We have turned one of our former beerhalls into a clinic in Hunyani section in Ward Four as the council tries to de-congest Chinhoyi Clinic so that people from Brundish and Hunyani section can access the health care facility,” he said.
He said council was looking at opening more health care facilities in line for the benefit of residents.
The council’s spokesperson, Mr Tichaona Mlauzi said the new clinic will be opened soon as renovations, now 80 percent complete, are finished.
Ward Four councillor, Brighton Mhizha hailed council for prioritising the health of its ratepayers. Chinhoyi residents applauded the move by the council, saying it was going to help reduce the local Covid-19 transmissions.
“The idea to turn the beerhall into a clinic is commendable, because it shows that it cares for our wellbeing,” said Brenda Zulu from Brundish.
