Chipinge administrator warn NGOs

Luthando Mapepa
CHIPINGE District Administrator, Mr Edgars Seenza, has warned Non-Governmental Organisations to desist from interfering with traditional leaders’ work.

Speaking at the District Water and Sanitation Committee meeting last Friday, District Administrator, Mr Seenza castigated some NGOs for not sticking to their mandate.

Mr Seenza said NGO’s Memorandum of Understanding with Government includes aspects of working with relevant ministries in promoting development.

“All NGOs should seek authority from Government before engaging the traditional leadership on the ground.

“Your reports should have areas that need interventions. Please stick to areas where you indicated in your MOUs that you will be working on.

“As NGOs you should include all stakeholders you will be working with in your projects because in Government we work as one team.

““All NGOs should not train our traditional leaders without our authority, work with them but don’t train them.

“Government will not hesitate to take action or transfer you from where you are operating now to another area.

“You should work closely with Government departments because policy comes from Government.

“Government is also grateful on the work being done by NGOs in fighting hunger,” said Mr Seenza.

Speaking at the same event, DWSC chairman, Mr Isaac Sundawo, said NGOs should create synergies with Government through District Development Fund in order to achieve development goals in the district.

“Due to drought that was caused by El-Nino people are in dire need of boreholes because water sources are becoming scarce.

“We are urging NGOs to partner Government in identifying areas in urgent need of boreholes.

“NGOs should consult DDF and we will provide our engineers so that we help each other.

“Many boreholes are drying and villagers are drilling substandard boreholes measuring 60m instead of 80m,” said Mr Sundawo.
