Businessman and former Chipinge South legislator Cde Enock Porusingazi dismissed reports that the political leadership was against the project.
The US$600 million Chisumbanje Ethanol Plant is expected to allow Zimbabwe to cut imports of petrol by 10 to 20 percent as ethanol at these levels can be blended in without any need to adjust engines.
“We welcome the setting up of the project in our district as it has provided the much needed employment opportunities for our community.
“The project will employ over 5 000 people and we expect our community to benefit from this opportunity,” said Cde Porusingazi.
There have been mixed reactions to the plant’s opening.
