THE Chipinge business community has donated a vehicle to the Zimbabwe Republic Police to help in fighting crime.
The Mazda vehicle will be added to the pool of vehicles which was recently availed to ZRP by the Government.
Speaking during the hand-over ceremony at Chipinge Urban Police Station last week, Officer Commanding Chipinge/Chimanimani District, Chief Superintendent Godwills Chinyanganya said the donation will go a long way in helping the police to fight crime in the district.
Chief Superintendent Chinyanganya said the vehicles availed to the police by Government and the local community come at the right time as the district has recorded an upsurge in crime.
“As police, we are humbled by this gesture. The donation has come at a time when everyone in the district was feeling the effect of resource constraints.
“Things are now happening in the district.
“We received vehicles at all our stations from Government, and now the business community has donated another vehicle to the police; this is commendable.
“From the resources we have received so far, we will try our best to meet your expectations in executing our duties,” said Chief Superintendent Chinyanganya.
He added: “This donation shows that we are not fighting crime alone. We also want to thank ZRP Commissioner General Godwin Matanga who hails from this district for also playing his part.
“We promise that we will not let our stakeholders down. We will make sure that every corner of the district is covered. We hope the spirit of unity will continue as we fight crime,” said Chief Superintendent Chinyanganya.
Business Against Crime (BAC) representative, Mrs Violet Banda said the business community should continue working with the police.
“Many business people have a bad working relationship with the police. We are saying this should stop, we should work together to uplift our community.
“We hope working together will enable us to reduce crimes,” said Mrs Banda.
Chipinge District recently saw business people being targeted by robbers.
