WORK on the Chipinge e-passport office is progressing well, with the contractor saying the project is almost 90 percent complete.

The one-stop registry office will house an e-passport, identification documents and CBZ Bank offices when complete.

This will bring relief to the people of Manicaland since there is no station issuing e-passports in the province.

Many e-passport seekers in the province are travelling to Marondera or Harare to acquire the travelling document.

In a recent interview, Chipinge District Development Coordinator (DDC), Mr William Mashava said the one-stop shop registry office will go a long way in helping the community acquire important documents easily.

“The development is welcome as our people were grappling with transport costs to acquire passports and other important documents. We are grateful to the Second Republic for walking the talk in projects implementations. The e-passport offices have now been decentralised in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.

“As Chipinge, we are close to the border with Mozambique and South Africa, and as a district, we used to have problems of repatriating our relatives who die outside the country without proper documentation.

“We also have porous borders, and the opening of the e-passport office will go a long way in making sure that people use official entry points. This will help us controlling our borders effectively,” said Mr Mashava.

The contractor, Homely Habitats site manager, Mr Obey Musiiwa said renovations are almost complete, and they are expecting to hand-over the offices to the Civil Registry Department in the next few days.

“The project is 90 percent complete. Renovations of the interior of the building will be completed this week. A borehole has already been drilled, and we are left with connections of the pipes to the premises. The shed is also expected to be finished next week.

“We are happy with the progress made so far,” said Mr Musiiwa.
