ZANU-PF Chipinge District says it will leave no stone unturned in its quest to mobilise over 100 000 people to vote for President Mugabe in next year’s harmonised elections.
Speaking during a leadership meeting held at the district offices in Chipinge recently, Zanu-PF provincial political commissar, Cde Simon Mapfumo-Mapamba said the party leadership had agreed to conduct workshops to enlighten supporters on the new registration process which is underway.
“Through instructions from the party’s provincial chair, we are going to carry out workshops mobilising people to rally behind President Mugabe in next year’s general elections.
“The exercise will cascade down to the village cells where many workshops are lined up. The workshops will be aimed at educating people on the need to go and register to vote and discussing the new voting system.
“In the meetings we have attended, it was agreed that we work together and urge everyone in the leadership to go to his or her area and start serious work since there is no time. The workshops will be carried out in all the districts in the province,” said Cde Mapamba.
Cde Mapamba took a swipe at some party members who were campaigning for positions and urged them to stop and concentrate on mobilising voters for President Mugabe.
“There is no party member that is allowed to go to the constituencies and campaign for their candidature because the party has not yet given a green light to do that. We are warning members who that doing that to stop as this may destabilise the party.
“The only person we are campaigning for is President Mugabe – our candidate for next year’s President election. The party will soon give the green light to aspiring candidates to start their campaigns,” he said.
Speaking during the same meeting, Chipinge South legislator, Cde Enock Porusingazi hailed the Government for scrapping identity cards registration fees.
“We are indeed happy that the Government has scrapped the payment of identity cards and birth certificate fees and we hope this decision will go a long way in helping our people. This programme comes at a time many people are trying to get their papers in order so that they will be eligible to vote next year.
“As leadership here we hope to use this opportunity to disseminate vital information to the people and make sure they go into the elections informed on what they need to do,” said Cde Porusingazi.
