CASH-STRAPPED Chipinge Town Council has resolved to introduce a 30 percent discount to all clients settling their bills in foreign currency.

The move comes at a time the local authority was having challenges in procuring chemicals and spares which are being charged in foreign currency.

In a recent interview after a full council meeting, council chairperson, Councillor Zivanai Nyakuchena said they resolved to open a Nostro account that will be used to collect foreign currency.

“We have introduced a foreign currency paying system at the town council. We have not been collecting foreign currency all these years and have decided to introduce this after realising that some commodities such as fuel, chemicals and spares for our equipment require foreign currency to procure.

“The move will ease the doing of business for the local authority,” he said.
