Chipinge reverberates to 21st February Movement musical gala

Shumba was at his best, churning out songs from his latest album, Mufaro. The revellers could be heard singing along the talented gospel artiste’s songs.
The gospel artiste who was flanked by his wife and another unidentified woman gave a polished act that left fans asking for more.
The Young Igwe was just in superb form as he energetically danced and sang.  The young artiste who arrived in Chipinge on Sunday morning after he had a show in Mutare the previous day showed no signs of fatigue.

Moyo gave a good account of himself confirming he is Tongai Moyo reincarnate. The little time he spent on stage was enough for fans to agree that he was not into music for fun.
Not to be outdone was Freddy Manjalima, known as Kapfupi in showbiz circles.  He also had a memorable show with his bags of jokes making the day for the bumper crowd that had thronged the school grounds. The Harare-based pint-sized comedian-cum-musician was never short of rib cracking jokes, supported by the little Justice “Matches” Musvoran’anga.

Alick Macheso and his Orchestra Mberikwazvo were at their usual best so was the flamboyant businessman-cum-artiste Energy Mutodi. He had to be escorted to the stage after being briefly held hostage by ecstatic fans who wanted to greet him.  Extra Basso sang songs from his album Tafadzwa and Vakiridzo  among other songs. Mutodi and the Real Sounds of Africa were actually equal to the task with their Rhumba music.  Their new                    song, Angelina that features Macheso is a good piece.

The four dancing girls and new recruits Shiga Shiga, the chanter, Spencer Khumbulani, bassist and Innocent Mujintu, added impetus to the Rhumba outfit.
The tireless and talented veteran, Leonard “Karikoga” Zhakata and his Zimbabwe Stars demonstrated that they are far from being  a spent force when they kept people on their  toes with their breathtaking display that was complemented by their smart black and white costumes.

Cde Chinx took people down memory lane through his songs, like Roger, Chikopokopo, Yorira among other revolutionary songs.  The Chimbetus — Tryson and Sulumane — played their hearts out and remained top contenders for the best performer’s award.
There was NetOne-sponsored best performer award where fans who are NetOne subscribers would choose their best artistes. There was a cash prize of $1 000 among other fabulous prizes. At the time of going to press the winner had not been announced.

Other artistes that performed at the gala include Willom Tight, Dino Mudondo, Derick Majaivana, Jeys Marabini, Mercy Mutsvene, Progress Chipfumo, Max Mapfumo, Roki, Nicholas Zacharia, and Born Free Crew among others.

The Deputy Minister of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion, Samuel Undenge, Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial chairman, Mike Madiro, party Central Committee member Mandy Chimene also attended as did former Zanu-PF legislator, Enock Porusingazi.
